Becoming a Leader Using PMA

“Win with PMA” develops people that become winners and leaders in society and life.  Winners and leaders are the people in this world that thrive when the pressure is on.  We make a difference because we prepare and ready ourselves to be at our best when our best is needed.  This is extremely important because there are three types of mentalities when the pressure is on.    However, only one type of mindset rises up on great occasions over and over again and this mindset is the only option that readies us to be people that step up and grab success. 

The first type of mindset avoids pressure situations.  In sports, these are the players that don’t want the ball in their hands and shouldn’t want it.  These are the people in this world that don’t chase success because it is too difficult of requires a lot of hard work.  They would rather watch safely from a distance and give their opinions after the fact.  These are the people that President Theodore Roosevelt was referring to when he famously said, “It is not the critic that counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.  The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again because there is no effort without error and shortcomings, who knows the great devotions, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at best knows in the end the high achievement of triumph and who at worst, if he fails while daring greatly, knows his place shall never be with those timid and cold souls who know neither victory nor defeat.”  

Unfortunately, our world is made up of an abundance of people with this mindset, and it feels like this way of thinking is growing.  These people are not active participants in their own lives, but find ways to blame others and complain about their lot in life.  They look for an excuse instead of the way.   You just have to look at the divorce rate and number of people that stay on welfare in our country to show proof of this type of person.  While this book is not a social commentary, it is important for us to understand that we are a result of our thoughts and choices for better or worse.  Unfortunately, it is easier to quit, so this is a choice that too many people make.  This mindset gets us beat in life and leads us to sit on the sidelines and complain.   

Second, we have the people that want to perform in pressure situations but shouldn’t because they are not ready.  These are the athletes that want the ball in the end, but can’t win the game for their team because they are not prepared.  People with this mindset are only halfway there.  They could succeed, but haven’t put in the work.  These people want power and responsibility, but are not prepared to handle the pressure or work it takes.  In our quick fix society, there are also a plethora of these types of people in our society.  People with this mindset want the good life, but don’t know what it takes to get it.  Whether it be a lack of work ethic or misguided principles, these people don’t live successful lives.  Too many people like to live on credit rather than earning what they desire before the payment is due. There is far too much entitlement in our world right now, and it is a major issue.   This mindset is a recipe for disaster because it is out of balance.   We live in a society that is concerned more with our rights than our duties.  It is fine to fight for the rights we deserve as people.  However, we need to be as concerned with the duties we need to fulfil as a person to be successful.  This puts us in balance and allows us to rise up and be great.  Unfortunately, in this second mindset, people care too much about their rights and not enough about their duties.  This doesn’t prepare us to be our best in big moments.

Finally and gratefully, we have the third type of mentality in our society.  We have the people that perform their best in the pressure situations.  These are the athletes that want the ball and can succeed with the game on the line.  These are people that have what it takes and have prepared themselves for success in life because they have worked hard to have the opportunity that is in front of them and  truly believe that they were born to be successful in their endeavors.  These are the catalysts and leaders in our society.  The people that move society forward and make a difference.  “Win with PMA” teaches people how to become this type of person.  PMA develops winners and leaders, prepares us for success and gives us the skills and abilities to be great in every facet of life.  

The skills that we get from living with PMA, also allow us to be great in leadership roles that will come our way.  The eight thought conditioners or principles that PMA teaches us guides us to success but also serve as a roadmap for us to lead our teams to success.  PMA prepares us to obtain and thrive in leadership roles.  Great leaders attack goals with positive action that sets the example in word and deed of what winners do.  We learn the consistency, work ethic and persistence necessary to guide us in this way of thinking and acting.  Finally, PMA demands that we serve others and place the common good before our individual wants to ensure that we reach our full potential.   Becoming an influential leader is a tremendous by-product of living the principles taught in Win with PMA.
