What’s the Plan? Shoot for a Star!

“So, what’s the plan?”  How many times have you said or heard this phrase?  I usually ask this question to my wife over our morning coffee.  We create a litany of intentions and instructions of tasks that we want to accomplish in the upcoming day. When we develop our daily plan and prioritize our “to do” list, we are usually efficient in getting our work done.  Our daily plans give us purpose for the day. And in turn, this purpose guides us to productivity.  The house gets cleaned, groceries get bought and put away, and laundry gets done.  We even get time to relax because having a plan made us deliberate in our actions which sped up our accomplishment.  It is amazing how much we get done when we have a plan.  I sometimes look back with astonishment and pride on days when I rock out the plans I set.

However, sometimes, like everyone, we are lazy.  “So, what’s the plan?” sometimes gets the response of “I don’t care.” or “I don’t feel like doing anything.” When these answers are the final product of our discussions, our productivity usually wanes.  Sometimes we fall into productive and fun days, but usually, when we have no plans, we waste the day. While not working a plan can be relaxing in the moment, these days make us fall behind and lead us to being unsatisfied and frustrated.

The day after a lazy day sends me into a hectic and angry day of playing “catch up.”  This leads to taking shortcuts and skipping things.  The dishes pile up, we have to make special runs to the store to pick up things last-minute, and we rush to do an early morning load of laundry to get clean underwear.  Our ineffective and unplanned day leads us to chaotic and rushed moments in the future.

While not having plans in the short term causes inconvenient and rushed moments in its wake, lack of plans and goals in the big picture, sets us up for an unfulfilled and failed future.  Clear and defined “big” plans and goals lead us to success and happiness.

We begin to Win with PMA when we “Shoot for a Star.”  This thought conditioner is about finding out what you want out of your life, why you want it, developing a plan to accomplish it, and then getting after it.  It is that simple.  Success comes from determining what you truly desire to accomplish and then systematically setting out to achieve it.  Having a clearly defined set of goals is the starting point in our quest to accomplishment and becoming the person we want to be.  A predetermined set of goals is the starting point to a successful journey that leads us where we want to go.  Our goals are our dreams and aspirations of yesterday. When we write down our dreams and plan how to achieve them, they become tangible and make the transformation to goals.  Turning dreams into goals starts the journey to the success we seek in life.

What do you want?

Why do you want it?

How are you going to accomplish it?

What are you willing to do and sacrifice to get it?

Use the goal setting formula in “Win with PMA” to get you to your goals.

See It!

Write It!

Plan It!

Do It!
