The Value of Hard Work

“Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.” -Will Rogers

“I see no virtue where I smell no sweat!-Thomas Edison

All successful people are great believers in hard work.  In order to achieve greatness and accomplish goals, we must pay the price. Hard work is an investment in future success.  The dedication we put into our actions will be revealed in the end result.  The person, company or team that readies themselves properly with great preparation finds consistent success if their energy is focused on the end goal.  People that can keep their eyes on the prize tend to be harder workers because they can tune out distractions. Productive hard work comes from intelligence, focus and effort.

There is a lot of merit in the saying, “Work smart, not hard.”  I like the idea of working smarter and harder a little better. Smart work leads to being good; hard work added to this leads to becoming elite.  Working smart is a key component of being effective in the pursuit of our goals.  Planning your work then working your plan makes us efficient in our tasks.  Time is a great equalizer.  We all have the same amount of it in a day.  People that use time effectively by working smart get ahead.  Having a predetermined plan for our actions allows us to complete them in a shorter amount of time as well as with more attention to detail.  When the framework for our actions is set in advance, it allows us to place our attention on the details and things that matter.  When we couple efficiency with hard work, we move mountains.  Working smart while working hard makes us the elite.  We can make strides that our competitors can’t.  We get ahead.

Organization is the heart of working smart that allows us to use our time more effectively than others by keeping us focused and on task.  It takes time and forethought to be organized, but it also pays great dividends. Our football teams get more quality reps in preparation for our games than any team we play.  Our organization allows us to practice at an incredibly fast pace because we prepare for every second of our practice time in advance.  Our coaches coach on the run and our players move with purpose.  Because of this organization, we work hard and smart which allows us to win a vast majority of our games.  I am convinced that our practice organization is one of the key elements that we used to turn our program from one that lost for decades into a consistent winner.

We can work smart and have great organization, but in the end it is about the grind.  Hard work wins, plain and simple.  The athletes that train the hardest are the ones that end up on the champions podium.  The students that study the hardest end up on the honor roll.  The businessmen that work the hardest make the most money.  Of course there are exceptions to the rule, but they are few and far between and usually are short lived.

Winners understand the value of hard work.  We are willing to pay the price in order to secure the blessings.  We enjoy and embrace the grind of hard work.  It is righteous and real.  Our accomplishments are earned.  Hard work wins and feels great when the results come in.  Embrace it and its results!
