Do It! Take Action and Achieve Your Goals

It is our direction, not our intention that determines our destination. Now that we have planned our work; it is now time to work our plan.  So far in our goal setting process, we have been dealing with our intentions.  In the “Do It” phase of the goal setting process, it is time to transform our intentions into reality.  This is the time when the rubber meets the road and success happens.  This is the time when you put PMA into practice in your life.  It is time for action.

I often discuss the concept of “walking the walk” as opposed to “talking the talk” with our teams.  It is important to be a person of action in a world where people do a lot more talking than doing, especially now in our social media world.  Everyone wants to be in charge until the crap hits the fan.  When it is “go time” the pretenders disappear and the winners get after it.  This is the time when things get accomplished and victories are won.  In order to accomplish goals, we must act.  We must do something.  We must move forward.  We must press on.  We must fight the good fight.

As a person moving towards our goals, it is an absolute necessity to stay the course.  We must battle the “Great Exchange” every day.  By this, I mean that we must always be looking at the big picture and keeping our goals in sight when events tempt us to lose focus.  We often have to exchange what might be more appealing today for what is in our best overall interest in accomplishing our goals.  For example, in our summer training, it is easy for our kids to sleep through the alarm and skip the workout.  It feels good in the moment, and it is the most pleasing result at the time.  However, that is losing sight of the big picture and the goals they have set for the future.  They are giving away a day to improve and increase their excellence for an unproductive activity. The success of any program comes from making the right decisions when faced with these choices.  When we stay the course and make the choices that keep us moving closer to our goals, we have a chance.  Good leaders keep their teams moving forward and build a habit of good decision making. This is part of the culture to be proud of in great organizations.  It is important to emphasize and relish the importance of the good decisions and sacrifices we make to be successful.
The determination to make positive growth toward our goals consistently gets the job done even in the presence of adversity. PMA depends on and works towards the achievement of goals.  It is based on truly believing in ourselves coupled with a lot of hard work. Set goals, but more importantly, achieve them with an undeniable attitude that demands positive action.
