There was an old carpenter that had worked hard his entire career and been a big reason for his company’s success. When the carpenter decided to retire, his boss talked him into doing one last important job. He began to work on the house they were building, but his heart wasn’t in it. He didn’t sweat the details with his craftsmanship like he normally did. He cut corners and didn’t challenge himself to do his best work. In short, he didn’t take pride in the job he was doing. He completed the job lacklusterly and turned the house over to his boss. Upon the inspection, his boss turned the keys of the brand new house over to the old carpenter and presented it to him as a gift for a successful career.
What kind of house are you building for yourself? Are you sweating the details and challenging yourself to achieve your goals, or are you cutting corners and taking the easy way out? We must always remember that we are building our house, or our character, each and everyday. We must strive for perfection in everything we do if we want to succeed. Once we start to succeed, we need to sustain and build upon it. The only way to grow and reach our full potential is to continually challenge ourselves, especially when we don’t feel like it. To do this, we have to bring our passion to everything we do. Each day is an opportunity to build a life of success and worth.
